What does a smart meter look like?

This is a photo of a Smart Meter on Kauai. If your meter says FOCUS, it is a smart meter. BEWARE: many people who sent in deferral forms before the smart meter roll out began have discovered there has been a "mistake" and they received a smart meter anyway.

Until Monday, September 30, 2013, it is FREE to change your Smart Meter for a Safe Meter. (If you are concerned about your health you can also get a high emitting digital meter changed to an analog meter.) For your health, your neighbor's health, your privacy, your safety, the safety of our bee population and environment, the safety of our electrical grid, check to be certain you have a SAFE electrical meter.

Only a true analog meter (no hidden antenna - yes, KIUC has installed analog meters with antennas) emits no pulsed microwaves and produces no disease causing dirty electricity.

For your safety when you send in your deferral form or call KIUC to request a meter change, MAKE CERTAIN TO SPECIFY A NON-RF EMITTING ANALOG METER. If you do not request a non RF emitting meter, you will be given a high RF emitting, high dirty electricity emitting digital meter in place of your smart meter. These meters emit microwave pulses in resonance with the surrounding smart grid. They are often either easily upgradable to a smart meter, or already a smart meter.

If you have digital meter we suggest you take down the manufacturer and model number and look up the product manual online to see what the capabilities of your meter are. Does it have wireless connectivity? Does it use a switching mode power supply (producer of dirty electricity)? Look for red flag phrases like "mesh network", "fixed network 2.0", "Silver Springs Network", etc.? If you see any of these terms it is highly likely that you are looking at a smart meter under a different guise.

1. How many times a day does a smart meter emit radiation?

On the website KIUC says Smart Meters send data 6-8 times per day and emit no radiation at other times.

Truth: Smart Meters emit microwave pulses an average (mean) of 14,000 times per day and up to 190,000 times per day according to testimony submitted by the manufacturer.

2. For how much of a day does a Smart Meter emit radiation?

KIUC posts 3 conflicting answers on their website:

8.6 seconds per day (KIUC refers to this as .01% of the day)
less than one minute per day
86 seconds per day

All 3 statements are grossly misleading. Smart Meters emit microwaves multiple times per minute or even per second throughout the day and night, 24/7. The pulses are short (.0045 seconds) so they don't add up to many seconds, but they are continuous! The best analogy is a strobe light. A strobe light might have the same electrical consumption as a low wattage lightbulb, but the biological effect is totally different (and causes sensitive individuals to have seizures). Microwaves travel long distances and through walls (that's how they communicate!). Therefore people are also affected by neighboring smart meters.

3. How much radiation do Smart Meters emit?

KIUC says: Smart Meter at 3' away outside: 0.000015mW/cm^2 = 0.015µW/cm^2

Local measurements: pulses measuring up to 5.9 µW/cm^2 Don't be mislead by KIUC's 30 minute average. The 24/7, erratic pulsing creates biological harm and effects are additive.

4.  Which gives off more radiation exposure, a cell phone or a Smart Meter?

KIUC says a Smart Meter emits much less radiation than a cell phone:

FACT: According to a report released in January 2012 by the Santa Cruz Department of Health, a Smart Meter emits 100 to 450 times more radiation than a cell phone when considering whole body exposure.

5.  What kinds of symptoms are people reporting?

• Ringing, buzzing in ears
• Headaches, dizziness
• Stress, anxiety, irritability
• Difficulty sleeping
• Muscles aches; weakness

Heart arrhythmia, chest pain
• Concentration/memory issues

Get A Safe Meter

Choose one of these Safe Meter Options

Analog Meter: the only true RF Free meter and the only meter which does not produce dirty electricity.

Simple Digital Meter: the only choice if you have a grid tied solar system.

If you want a SAFE meter installed in place of your smart meter, DO NOT use the KIUC deferral form without amending it to request either RF Free Analog or RF Free Digital meter. The forms above are already amended for you. Click the link to get your form so that you can get a safe meter. If you do not specify a RF free meter, you will be given a meter which emits significant microwave pulses and pulses in resonance with smart meters in your neighborhood.

If you want an RF free meter, you must specify and insist upon it.

Analog Meter

The only RF free meter and the only meter which does not produce dirty electricity.

Be aware. KIUC can and does still install true RF free analog meters for people who insist upon them, but you have to be firm to get one. You may be told they "don't have them any more", "don't install them any more", that "they aren't made anymore", or any number of things. If you want the safest meter, be clear, polite, and firm. If you have trouble getting the analog meter you request, contact Planet Oasis.

Simple Digital Meter

Rather than transmitting via wireless, the digital meter requires a human to read it. It does produce dirty electricity due to the switching mode power supply (SMPS). KIUC will install this meter without objection. If you have a solar system, you must choose a digital meter, but you DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE A SMART METER. If KIUC tells you otherwise, contact Planet Oasis.

This is 2.8 to 5.7 times the radiation level at 200′ from the proposed cell tower,
or 569 to 1135 times the levels at 600′ from the tower.

This is 10.3 to 24.2 times the radiation level at 50′ from the proposed cell tower.

INDEPENDENT STUDY FINDS ‘SMART’ METERS CAN VIOLATE FEDERAL SAFETY LIMITS

Scientific Analysis of New Wireless Meters May Explain Reported Health Symptoms.

A new study on wireless “smart” meters shows they are likely to violate Federal Communications Commission (FCC) safety limits in some instances where they are installed and operated close to where people spend time in their homes and back yards.

Further, the study found it typical to have excessively elevated radiofrequency (RF) radiation levels in rooms adjacent to the meter, comparable to living within 200 – 600 feet of cell phone towers. Scientific studies have reported adverse health effects from chronic exposure to pulsed RF at the same levels and frequencies emitted by smart meters.

Health impacts can include neurological symptoms such as headache, sleep disruption, restlessness, tremors, cognitive impairment, and tinnitus, as well as increased cancer risk and heart problems such as arrythmias, altered heart rhythms, and palpitations.1

“From a public health point of view, it is very shortsighted to bring on new sources of human exposure to radiofrequency radiation without any attention to the adverse effects on human health. Smart meters result in a significant increase of exposure to a form of radiation already shown to cause cancer and other diseases.” David O.
